With a growth of 7 percent per year this East-African republic is economically the most rapid progressing African nation.
Health care, however, is in a very pitiful state.
It further more established that Rwanda with a population of more than 8 million only has 11 dentists, or one per 800,000 people, compared to e.g. the Netherlands with one dentist per each 1,700 people.
The 2005 Rwanda Oral Health Policy Report is of the opinion that in the coming years all forms of oral care urgently demand attention.
“A functioning and sustainable oral health policy that provides acceptable, affordable and accessible health services to all communities in Rwanda and is supported by health education, health promotion and integrated into in the general health system.”
